Art Bathing

Art Bathing (Taidekylvetys) was a site- specific performance that took place in Loviisa Finland 25.8.2023. The performance took place and was inspired by Loviisa’s old health spring (Vanha terveyslähde/Radiumkällan). The old health spring was found in the 18th century, from where bathhouse culture started in Loviisa. Traces of the bathing culture history can be seen still today. The working group – Japanese calligrapher Yukina Yamamoto, performance artist Tuuli Malla and multidiciplinary artist Mari Mäkiö – has been exploring how water has been linked to thoughts and practices around healing and health. Performance combined Japanese calligraphy, colours made from plants collected from the site and movement inspired by the environment.

The performance was created in collaboration with Art in Lov - Artist residency, City of Loviisa and archives of Loviisa City Museum. The producer of the production was Tiina Kuisma from Loviisa Art Association.
