About

Mari Mäkiö (b.1982) is an artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. She works mainly with installation, combining different media from sound and video to ceramics and prints. Her artworks are often site-specific. An important part of her process is creating the artwork together with other artists as well as people outside of the cultural field. She usually plans the initial framework for a project and then invites suitable collaborators to develop the work together. Through the shared process there is always an element of surprise in the outcome.

Mäkiö’s works have been shown in museums and galleries in Finland and abroad. She has also participated in several artist in residence programs in Europe and Japan. Her background is in the visual arts, in 2015 she graduated as Master of Arts in Photography at Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Finland.
